OUR HISTORY

Cornerstone is a nonprofit 501C3 organization that was born out of the need to find funding to support the oncology massage training program and clinic at the Center for the Advancement of Therapeutic Arts (CATA), to provide the highest quality massage therapy to patients with cancer.

The training program at CATA invites oncology patients from the three major cancer hospitals in New York City to participate, at low cost, in a clinical internship as part of CATA’s nationally recognized, groundbreaking, 200-hour massage training curriculum. This not only provides patients with relief from the debilitating side effects of their cancer treatment, it also provides students with valuable information and real-life experience for working with oncology patients.

Cornerstone’s mission is to provide funding for oncology massage training programs that support students’ professional training and to provide funding for oncology patients to support their healing process. In addition to treatment and training assistance, we look to fund satellite treatment and training programs across the city and across the country.

We all know someone with cancer, so we want all cancer patients to have access to highly-trained massage practitioners to allow them a safe space to breathe and heal.
